RULES AND STUDENTS’ DISCIPLINE

A. ABSENTEEISM
In cognizance of the short duration of this school programme, it is unacceptable for any student absenting him/herself from the first day of the first semester to the last day of the second semester. Should any student be found absent with or without permission, such a student will be summarily dealt with.

B. HOSTEL PERMISSION
For any intention of any student to leave the hostel for any reason, a written application must be submitted through the Head of Admin to the registrar by such student a week before the time or not later than 72 hours to allow processing. Management carefully examines the reason for the exit and if approved, issues a form to the student to fill detailing the full reason for the permission, where he/she intends to go, the address and the full contact of the person in question as well as the date of return.

C. RULES AND REGULATIONS
I. There shall be hostel president for the Boys and the Girls who shall report all matters to the Porter or Portress as the case may be who shall thereafter report through the matron to Head of Admin and if they could not resolve the issue, shall be reported to the Rector.
II. The school hereby ban all forms of gathering, night vigil or fellowship during the day or night be it political, religious or even social gathering apart from the stipulated hour of class room lecture and reading. And therefore, the management will not tolerate any religious and political fanatism, gansterism, students or staff rascality nor permit outside influence.
III. No student is allowed to leave the hostel beyond 6pm after returning from lectures. But in case of any serious issue, proper permission should be sought from the Head of Admin through the porter.
IV. Sleeping outside the hostel for whatever reason is not allowed without any prior written application and approval from the school management and any student caught in this regard will be summarily dealt with.
V. No student is allowed to leave the hostel for weekend on any reason. But in the case of a serious situation, the students’ exit permit must be obtained from the Head of Admin, duly filled and submitted for approval.
VI. All students must live peacefully with each other without rancour.
VII. No student is allowed to entertain any visitor of any sort in the hostel or in the school premises.
VIII. The cleaning of the hostel shall be done by the students through roaster prepared and supervised by the porter/portress as the case may be
IX. Smoking and drinking is not allowed by any student
X. No female student is allowed into the male room/hostel
XI. No male student is allowed to go into the female room/hostel
XII. There should be decorum among students as shouting, playing of loud music with phones, screaming and disturbing are totally prohibited.
XIII. All the school property should be handled with caution and care as any student who damage the hostel property will be penalized and punished accordingly.
Note that:
a) Every student of the school should always conduct him/herself in an orderly manner.
b) Students should maintain personal cleanliness and dress properly.
c) It must be emphasized that all members of the school community including the students are part of the citizens of Nigeria, subject to laws of our country whether within or outside the school premises. But in the situation where a student(s) allow

the law of the country to take its course, by committing a crime, the school shall, if deemed fit, take interim disciplinary action on erring student(s) pending the final determination of the law. Students are expected to learn to cope with their problems intelligently, reasonably and with a sense of understanding and consideration. The rights and freedom for him/herself as he/she is expected to respect the right and freedom of others everywhere and at all times.
d) Students should not smoke, take illicit drugs, alcohol or any form of banned substances on the school premises.
e) Writing anything on the wall for whatsoever reason is highly prohibited except on the class board.
f) Any student who attacks, blocks or threatens any staff, while performing his/her legitimate duties, or found to be the catalyst to any of these vices shall be liable to the following punishment;
g) Expulsion: in case of attack and assaults.
i. Suspension for insult occasioning embarrassment, insubordination, rudeness, threatening, abuse. Disciplinary measures shall be meted for disallowing the officer for carrying out his duty.
ii. Fighting is prohibited and very severe disciplinary measures ranging from suspension or expulsion depending on the gravity of the offense shall be meted on the student.
h) Assault is prohibited. Any student who assaults another; aids or abets another to assault student or staff for any reason shall and as the case may be, be liable to suspension or expulsion depending on the gravity of the offence.
i) Gambling or stealing is prohibited on the school premises or in the hostel. Any violation of these regulations shall attract stiff penalty ranging from suspension to expulsion.
j) Cultism is prohibited in African Peace Polytechnic neither shall any student be found associating with external cultist bodies or any illegal associations clubs and organizations if found shall be liable to summary punishment from the institution and shall be handed over to the law enforcement agency.
k) Students must observe and exhaust the school channels of communication or procedures as they relate to the school authority on matters that concerns them.
l) Protests, riots and gangster-ism are no allowed in the school. Where students have cases of grievances, such should be channeled to the Director of Studies through the Registrar within 48 hours for appropriate action. Matters of emergency should

be reported appropriately to the departmental head or students’ affairs officer for immediate action.
Any other act(s) that disrupts peace and tranquility in the school environment shall attract disciplinary action in accordance with the gravity of the offence as may be recommended by central students’ welfare and disciplinary committee.

D. DISCIPLINE
Disciplinary committee
Based on the name and the peace fundamental establishment of the school, there shall be high level of discipline required from all members of the institute, academic and non academic staff irrespective of ranks or positions as well as students and anybody found wanting or undisciplined for any reason shall be severely dealt with and in a serious case, a staff could be summarily dismissed or handed over to the law enforcement agent. While in the case of a student, may be meted with rustication, through or without disciplinary committee
a) The school has a disciplinary committee (DC) which will monitor, investigate punish or make recommendations on cases of indiscipline to the Director of Studies; and at the department level, each department shall have a disciplinary committee to deal with cases of indiscipline which cuts across two or more departments making up the school.
b) All disciplinary cases that cannot be concluded at department/school levels, shall be forwarded to the office of the Director of Studies for further investigations and actions by the students’ welfare and disciplinary committee, handed by the students’ affairs officer.
The Director of Studies or Departmental Head may reprimand erring students and where necessary may recommend stiffer punishment for such.

e. Possession of fire arms/dangerous weapons
f. Drug abuse
g. Examination misconduct
h. Drunkenness
i. Assault and battery
j. Fighting
k. Theft
l. Indecent dressing
m. Careless or willful destruction or damage of school property
n. Willful failure to submit school property to the appropriate officer at the close of the semester.
o. Loud and distracting noise at unauthorized times and locations
p. Unlawful Assembly or meetings, gangsterism and demonstrations
q. Libelous publications or reports
r. Making or receiving calls during lectures/exams
s. Forgery
t. Impersonation
u. Any form of prostitution
v. Sexual promiscuity
w. Dating same or opposite sex
x. All other acts which the school may judge as misconduct.
a. suspension, rustication and restriction
Where it appears to the Rector that any student has been guilty of misconduct;
i. Recommend that the student shall not during such period that may be in the recommendation, participate in such activities of the school or make use of such facilities of the school as may be specified.
ii. Recommend that activities of the students shall, during such period as may be specified in the recommendation, be restricted in such a manner as may be so specified.
iii. Recommend to the Proprietor that the student be rusticated for such a period as may be specified in recommendation.
iv. Recommend that the student shall be expelled from the school.
a) Under these regulations, “suspension” will mean a temporary action which excludes a student from all activities of the school including class attendance, students’ union activities, and any activity organized by the institution. Any Student suspended/dismissed shall be required to quit the school premises immediately and must not be seen in the school premises or hostel within the period of that suspension or rustication. The management of the school regards these as serious misconduct, all grave acts of immoral, dishonest, or destructive behavior as well a flagrant breach of the rules and regulations. Cases of gross misconduct shall be reported immediately to the Rector who shall then summon a meeting of the students’ welfare and disciplinary committee to consider the allegation of a serious misconduct. Except in cases of emergency, he must take temporary action as he may deem fit (excluding expulsion). The students concerned shall be given an opportunity to appear before the student’s welfare and disciplinary committee to defend himself, herself, or themselves. After giving the students this opportunity for fair hearing and after due consideration, the disciplinary committee may recommend to the rector the appropriate punishment.

b) Misconduct g,I,j,l,m,n,o,p and q shall attract penalties ranging from suspension, rustication or expulsion from the institution. These penalties shall be determined by the gravity of the offence committed by the students’ welfare and disciplinary committee or any relevant body saddled with such responsibility upon investigations and recommendations of the management of the institution.
c) Misconduct ‘a’ to ‘u’ above shall attract expulsion from the school and the candidate may be handed over to the police.
d) Where the offence committed does not fall under ‘a’, the academic board shall decide a penalty which it considers commensurate to the committed criminal offences. Those students who erroneously believe that they are immune to prosecution for criminal offences committed on the campus, the management shall not prevent the law enforcement from performing their statutory functions. Students involved in acts that are likely to cause disturbance of the peace such as fighting, rioting, inciting etc., will be subject to severe disciplinary action and in extreme cases, including cultism in the school, such student(s) may be handed over to the law enforcement for necessary prosecution/action.

v. Boiling ring or electric kettle
vi. Refrigerator
vii. Furniture etc.

H. ITEMS ALLOWED IN THE HOSTEL
i. Six spring mattress
ii. Bed spread
iii. Pressing iron
iv. Bathing bucket
v. Stove
vi. Laptop
vii. Reading materials
viii. Utensils
ix. Decent Cloths etc.
I. DRESS CODE
No indecent dressing is allowed in the school such as,
i. Net cloths
ii. Spaghetti tops for girls
iii. Bum shorts
iv. Wearing of short nicker to the class
v. Transparent dresses are totally not allowed in the school or hostel

vi. Wearing of weird, colourful or attractive hair styles
vii. Fixing of eyelashes
viii. Saggy trousers
ix. Keeping of bushy hair/rough hair styles.
